The Radio – Galway Film Fleadh

The premiere of THE RADIO took place at the 34th Galway Film Fleadh in July 2022, the latest project from the Ardán / RTÉ Short Film Commission - Ireland’s longest running short film scheme.

It was a long journey to this point due to several production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was certainly worth the wait to experience the heartwarming short with an audience in the Town Hall Theatre.

For the Ardán / RTÉ Short Film Commission, each participant applied as an individual and teams were formed over the course of a networking day in January 2020. The team behind THE RADIO is Keeper’s own Evan Horan as producer, Laura Kavanagh as director – who previously wrote and directed the short NO PLACE, and Thomas Conway as writer. Both Evan and Laura met during X-Pollinator 2019; and after forming the team – Evan and Thomas realised that they’re in fact from the same village in Co. Sligo!

THE RADIO tells the story of an elderly widower (Lalor Roddy) who depends on his radio to keep a foothold in his routine, when it breaks, his daughter (Angela Teefey), who knows how important it is to him, is forced to pay more attention to her isolated father.

Thanks so much to our cast and crew which included DOP Evan Barry, editor Catriona Delbridge, costume designer Joanne O’Brien, production designer Marykerin Naughton, composer Emma Smith, sound Gregory Burrowes, make up designer Ber Drennan, and first assistant director Rob Myler, with post production at Screen Scene.

Having already premiered online at Underwire Festival earlier this year, and after the Galway Film Fleadh, THE RADIO will now begin its journey on the festival circuit over the coming months.
