IRISH PICTORIAL WEEKLY is a successful series with a look at the country’s political and media culture, using a range of sketch formats and media manipulation. It is a six-part topical, satirical programme consisting of a sequence of pre-recorded sketches, in a mix of formats. The predominant formats are scripted sketches, redubbed archive footage and some musical numbers – both originally composed and reworkings of popular songs.
IRISH PICTORIAL WEEKLY is written and performed by top Irish comedic talents Barry Murphy, Paul Howard, Eleanor Tiernan, John Colleary, Colum McDonnell and Paul Woodfull. With well-known characters Gunther, Angela Merkel, and Ursula McCarthy returning and with Ireland constantly lurching from one display of incompetence to the next.
