More About Yvonne

At the start of 2015, Yvonne produced RAPT a 4 x 6mins mini drama series for the RTÉ Storyland project in association with the Irish Film Board.  Since then she has been instrumental in the realization of many Blinder projects including producing EXTRA ORDINARY, BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL, THE RACER, and television drama series STRIKING OUT.  She is currently in production as Executive Producer on THE GONE, a 6 x 1 hour crime series which is an Irish New Zealand co-production, starring Richard Flood, Carolyn Bracken and Michelle Fairley, and is also an Executive Producer on Claire Dix’s debut feature, SUNLIGHT, which is written by Ailbhe Keoghan, and is currently in post-production.

Prior to Blinder, she worked with RTÉ, the national broadcaster. As well as working as a full-time script editor on soap Fair City, she also worked with the Independent Production Unit as development consultant on a series of projects including the new series of Raw and four part drama, Amber. She was then the script editor on the second series of Trivia a 6 x 1 hour comedy drama for RTÉ One. Previous to this, she was the Head of Development at Great Southern Film and Television in New Zealand, running their extensive feature film and television slates.

What’s your favourite film / Television Show?

Hate this question ‘cos I love so many random things but some projects that I’ve seen that I’m like “yes that’s a bit of me” are ARRIVAL, THE OA, LES REVENANTS, THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU, SHARP OBJECTS, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, DEAD MAN’S SHOES, A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT, and GAVIN & STACEY!

What piece of work are you most proud of?

It’s more that I have scenes or moments that I love in everything I’ve been lucky enough to produce. The playground/self-immolation scene in RAPT, the amazing rain soaked opening of STRIKING OUT 2, Rose and her Dad’s exorcism of a puddle/dog ghost in EXTRA ORDINARY (in fact, too many scenes in this movie to pick!), and the ‘grand depart’ of the Tour De France of THE RACER. But it’s hard to look past the fact that all my life I dreamed of making a vampire film. I snuck into Quinnsworth aged 11 to buy a copy of Interview with the Vampire (I still have that copy!) and a lifelong obsession with bloodsuckers was born! To get a chance to actually make a vampire film, and for it to be one that I love and adds to the lore has been a particular thrill.

What drew you to working in production?

I don’t really consider myself as working in production. What drew me to this industry is that I couldn’t believe it was an actual job to do this stuff!

What’s your favourite spot in Dublin?

Hard to beat flying into it and seeing the big picture of it while knowing the intensity on every corner!

What kind of projects are you drawn to?

I always want to be surprised or moved.

What’s a favourite song of yours?

Anything from 2006 – indie sleeze all the way!

What’s a memorable moment on the job?

Too many! The most memorable are always ones that include production disasters and our often colourful responses! Having an actor rip his achilles tendon on set and having to rewrite 5 episodes of a show was a particularly fun moment – it made for a better show!
